Dance Ahead is a Carlisle-based creative organisation founded by Zoë Leigh Gadd in 2008 and relaunched as a Community Interest Company in 2025. We create contemporary dance theatre, workshops and participatory projects in public, community and non-traditional spaces.
Our work connects people, places and artists through movement, storytelling and creative collaboration. We design accessible, imaginative experiences with communities, venues, schools, cultural partners and independent artists, opening up new ways for people to encounter dance and creativity beyond the traditional stage.
As Dance Ahead CIC, we are entering a new phase of development, building on our history of collaborative community projects while expanding opportunities for participation, artistic exchange and place-based cultural activity across Carlisle, Cumbria and beyond.
Our work is shaped by four connected pillars: dance artistry, community participation, cultural activation and innovation in learning, rooted in connection, curiosity, place and belonging.
