Carlisle Ambassadors and PCC Cumbria are delighted to offer this free to attend business event, in conjunction with Get Safe Online.

Press Release from PCC Cumbria: Carlisle Ambassadors, Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner and Cumbria Constabulary are joining forces to host an event with Get Safe Online to raise cyber awareness amongst business community and provide them with easy to follow education to protect themselves from cyber criminals.

It will take place on Thursday 28th September between 10:00am-12:00pm at The Halston in Carlisle. A number of cyber security experts will be presenting at the event from organisations including Cumbria Police, Get Safe Online, Lloyds Bank and Kaspersky Lab.

The event will offer education and support for businesses on how they can pro-actively protect themselves from cyber-attacks as well as improve their security practices. It will also include guidance towards Cyber essentials, ISO27001 and advice on how businesses can prepare themselves for the forthcoming GDPR legislation in 2018.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall said: “Keeping safe online is everyone’s business. We all will have seen the recent reports of ransomware affecting businesses and organisations. When I have been speaking to business people they have asked what do they need to do to protect their business from either cybercrime or improve information security that is why I am pleased to be hosting the cyber Awareness Event to help the business community.”

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Webster added: “Cyber-crime is an increasingly evolving problem and it is important that we educate the public in order to prevent them from becoming victims. Businesses are integral to our community and we look forward to this event which will hopefully equip them with the knowledge needed to protect them from cyber-crime.”

Tony Neate from business experts Get Safe Online added: “Smaller businesses often assume that due to their size that they won’t be targeted by cyber criminals. Sadly, that’s not true. While larger businesses are certainly a bigger target for hackers, small businesses can be viewed by criminals as easy prey as well as a way into bigger organisations in their supply chain. Our event is specifically designed to address the needs of smaller businesses that may not have huge resources available to create cyber security processes. Businesses that attend will leave armed with tips and tools that enable them to make small but significant changes to protect their organisation from criminals.”
